State VASE Competition

  • Seven Canyon Lake High School art students’ work advanced to State VASE competition. VASE stands for Visual Arts Scholastic Event.

Dance

Middle School Final Competitions

  • Pieper Ranch MS Charmers ended contest season receiving first place in every routine, placed top overall and super sweepstakes at the MA Dance & Visual FX San Antonio Regional contest on Saturday, Feb. 29, at Boerne-Champion High School.
  • Smithson Vally MS Sweethearts Dance Team won the Overall Grand Champion Award Crowd Pleasers Middle School State Dance Competition Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Woodlands College Park High School. Brynne McFarlane and Kylah Moller, 3rd place in the Crowd Pleasers Middle School State Duet Dance Competition in their category. Sweethearts Officers, 1st place in Hip-Hop and 2nd place in Lyrical & Jazz.
  • Church Hill and Mountain Valley Middle Schools also competed in the Crowd Pleasers competition. CHMS came in third place and MVMS came in fourth.
  • Canyon MS TopCats performed in their last competition this weekend as well at Boerne Champion HS.

Music

UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest - High School

  • Canyon High Choir brought home 31 medals for superior ratings.  Participants included Frankie Allen, Ryli Brace, Jasmine Browning, Drew Carter, Savannah Chastain, Brianna De Jesus, Taytum Dove, Victoria Etter, Jasmati Evans, Ana Fuentes, Braeden Gibbons, Ariana Gonzales, Madelynn Gonzalez, Mackenzie Hayes, Megan Humphrey, Georgina Leal, Daley Lemmons, Alanise Maldonado, Isabella Marmolejo, Mariah Mattson, Alyssa McCourt, Myles Meyer, Omar Mora, Abbie Morgan, Kara Munoz, Alyssa Olveda, Kathryn Ramirez, Samantha Ramirez, Emma Rosales, Alan Ruan, Faith Scheele, Sean Schoonover, Madison Watson, Sydnee Welch and Mekaylah Young. CHS pianists included Madeleine Coronado, Andrew Moberley and Elijah Underwood.
  • All of CHS soloists received superior and excellent ratings with 14 singers, one vocal ensemble, and three piano soloists advanced to Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest.
  • Canyon Lake High Choir brought home 40 first division medals: two for piano solo, 22 for vocal solo and 16 for vocal ensemble. Nineteen students qualified to compete at the state contest in May.

Middle School UIL Choir Concert and Sight Reading Competition

  • All seven Comal ISD middle schools competed in this contest.
  • Danville MS Choir Varsity men received excellent scores across the board for their first time to compete, and the varsity women received superior rating in sight reading and excellent rating in performance.

Student Organizations

CLHS JROTC

CLHS JROTC cadets competed in the St. Mary’s University Orienteering Meet in which 19 schools competed for individual, team and overall trophies. They received first place overall as well as the following:
  • Amanda Salvatierra, first place individual novice. 
  • CLHS advanced female team, first place
  • CLHS advanced male and coed teams both took second place. 

SVHS Navy JROTC

SVHS Navy JROTC Ranger Battalion competed in the Area 10 State Drill Meet this past weekend at Texas A&M University, placing 4th overall, and finishing 3rd in both Academics and Physical Fitness. Individual awards include the following:

SVHS German Club

SVHS German Club members placed in the top 10 at the Texas State German Contest Saturday, Feb. 29, at Texas State University.

  • T-shirt Design: 2nd place for Zoey Babyak and Lane Stanley
  • Poetry: 3rd for Amelia Dorko, 6th for David Garstecki and 10th for Erin Stanley
  • Culture: 6th for David Garstecki and 8th for Amelia Dorko
  • Gingerbread house: 5th for Kara Acker
  • Grammar: 8th for Erin Stanley
  • Vocabulary: 9th for Lane Stanley
  • Needlework: 6th for Amelia Dorko

CLHS Student Council

CLHS Student Council donated 1,595 diapers and 2,316 wipes to St.Jude's Children's Ranch this weekend.

Theater

One Act Play Zone Competition

SVHS one act play, Clybourne Park, competed against five other schools at a UIL One Act Play contest on Friday, Feb. 28, and advanced to District while taking the first place trophy along with many more awards.

  • Outstanding Crew - Olivia Aliassadi, Gracen Farmer, Stephen Barkalow, and Tara Gates
  • All Star Technician - Gracen Farmer
  • Honorable Mention Acting - Brenna Collins and Caleb Mosley
  • All Star Cast - Blake Vontilzer, Chaya Powell and Hannah Marfin
  • A public performance of Clybourne Park will be scheduled sometime after spring break.
