Comal ISD Voters Approve Three Propositions in 2021 Election

Nov. 5, 2021 - On Tuesday, voters approved three of five propositions presented by the Comal Independent School District in the 2021 Election. These approved propositions will allow the fast-growth district to increase staff compensation, build new campuses, purchase new buses, provide new playgrounds for its elementary campuses and increase safety and security measures throughout its 589 square miles.

“We are thankful that our communities supported three of our five propositions,” says Jason York, Comal ISD Board of Trustees president. “We couldn’t have been successful, however, without the support and help of our PTAs, booster clubs and Comal ISD staff who work tirelessly for our students and teachers. As our district continues to attract more families as well as retirees, we will continue to be good stewards of the taxpayer dollars and listen to their voices as we provide an education that ensures every student graduates career, military or college ready.”

The three propositions which were approved by voters include Proposition A, a voter approved tax ratification election (VATRE); Proposition B, which addresses growth and investment including the addition of four new campuses and buses; and Proposition E, addressing instructional technology for teacher and student laptops, classroom displays and network infrastructure.

“The approval of Proposition A allows us to increase the compensation of our teachers and staff and attract additional teachers as we continue to grow. Approval of Propositions B and E, allows us to accommodate the growth for now,” York says. “Moving forward, we will continue to look for ways to balance our growth while staying true to our small-town values. We are fortunate to have grandparents as well as young families who call our area home, and we appreciate all they bring to our communities.”

The two propositions which were not approved by voters include proposition C and D. Proposition C would have addressed additions to athletic facilities for program enhancement at six campuses, and Proposition D would have addressed safety improvements and stadium expansions at Canyon Lake High School and Davenport High School.
