Fourteen Students Qualify for State Powerlifting Competition

April 25, 2025 - Fourteen Comal ISD students qualified and competed in the 2025 Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) state meet this spring with three from Canyon High School earning medals.

The medalists include Sydney Banks who placed 4th in the state, McKenzie Isbill who placed 3rd and Sala Nuu who also placed 3rd.

Additional CHS powerlifting state qualifiers include Gabriel Benitez, Grayson Coyne and Logan Gomez. Coaches are Mark Steele and Kara Steele.

The remaining powerlifting state qualifiers are from Canyon Lake High School and Pieper High School.

Students from CLHS include Matthew Elson, Kaden Lewis and Jacob Tuckness. Coaches are Cody Means and Kurt Sloan.

Students from PHS include Michael Briggs, Ram Holcomb, Ryan Lopez, Alannah Mallard and Ty Murray. Coach is Cameron Herzog.

While growing in popularity, powerlifting is not a UIL-sanctioned sport and is organized by the THSPA.
